چکیده

Accurate microwave dielectric measurement of materials is necessary data for the design engineer during the development stage of electronic and communication components. Several techniques have been published in recent years for measurement of dielectric properties of materials at microwave frequencies. Each of these techniques has some limitations in terms of accuracy and frequency coverage. This paper presents a novel method based on coaxial transmission line for the measurements of dielectric properties of a wide range of materials in the frequency range of 1 GHz to 4 GHz. A combined analytical-numerical method for conversion of smoothed transmission scattering ( 21 S ) parameters to complex permittivity is also presented. The measurement method was validated using air, low-loss solid and a high-loss liquid. The technique was then used to investigate the microwave absorption of an iron complexed and ligated to polyarylonitrile yarn powder.

Radiation-Corrected Open-Ended Coax Line Technique for Dielectric Measurements of Liquids up to 20 GHz

An experimental technique and associated analysis are described for the measurement of the dielectric constants of liquids at microwave frequencies using an open-ended coax probe. The analysis includes radiative corrections to the probe-liquid interface impedance. The technique is applicable to liquid and liquidlike (e.g., biological) samples, having dielectric constants comparable to water, at...

Nondestructive and Noncontact Dielectric Measurement Methods for Transformer Oil Using Free-space Microwave Measurement System in 19 – 25 GHz Frequency Range

Nondestructive, noncontact and real time evaluation of dielectric properties of low-loss liquids are important for applications such as service-aged transformer oil, biomedical, remote sensing and design of radar absorbing material. Free-space methods were developed to measure dielectric properties of low-loss liquids at microwave frequencies. Metal-back method was developed for Freespace Micro...

High frequency dielectric relaxation in polymers filled with ferroelectric ceramics

We investigated the dielectric relaxation process in high-dielectric constant polymer composite films filled with barium titanate particles. In order to extend the dielectric measurements to the microwave range, we employed a new broadband measurement technique where a thin film capacitance terminating a coaxial waveguide is treated as a transmission line. The complex permittivity, measured at ...

Influence of reflections on the operation of the 2 MW, CW 170 GHz coaxial cavity gyrotron for ITER

The influence of reflections on the operation of the 2 MW, CW 170 GHz coaxial cavity gyrotron oscillating in the TE34,19 mode is studied. In particular, frequency-independent power reflections, e.g. from plasma or some elements of the transmission line, larger than 1% and occurring in a poor phase may lead to oscillation breakdown and should be avoided. Frequency-dependent reflections from a sp...

ing dielectric permittivity and loss tangent of embedded passive materials. The measurements are made in an APC-7 coaxial configuration where the test specimen represents a load terminating an air-filled coaxial transmission line. The method is suitable for testing high dielectric constant (high-k) polymer-composite materials having nominal thickness of 1 μm to 300 μm at frequencies of 100 MHz ...
